Humans Need 2 New Planets by 2030?

By MD • Nov 2nd, 2008 • Category: Odd Stuff

World Wildlife Fund - Living Planet Report 2008 The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) predicts that humans need to acquire two new planets to sustain our growing populations and demands on natural resources.

James Leape, the director general of WWF International says, “…our demands continue to escalate, driven by the relentless growth in human population and individual consumption. Our global footprint now exceeds the world’s capacity to regenerate by 30 percent. If our demands on the planet continue at the same rate, by the mid-2030s, we’ll need the equivalent of two planets to maintain our lifestyles.”

That’s a pretty demanding proposition considering we have yet to find another habitable planet. Nor have we advanced to a stage where we can begin to colonize a planet or moon. In any case, it’s an interesting read.
